Freya's Offer of Help

[OOC: I'm assuming here that Freya made prior mention to Artemis of her offer to help him cure his "crazy". Hope that's ok.]

The day after Freya's evening out with Tryce, the doctor will seek Freya out when she's about the ship.

"I hope you had a pleasant evening last night," he offers as he approaches.

(OOC: Sorry for taking a week to get to this. Work was busy and I kept forgetting.)

"It has the potential to be... quite chaotic," she smiles.

"I assume this has to do with excavating the layers of madness in that asylum you call a mind?"

[OOC: No worries! I figured you were busy.]

Artemis tucks his hands into his pockets and nods cheerfully. "Yup! I'm going to make another attempt. If you're still offering your help, I will take you up on it."

"My sanity was only taking up space, anyway," she shrugs.

"Your talk of what you are experiencing has been troubling the crew more than the usual things you say. Sometimes it is easy to become so focused on one thing that all the details become a blur, kind of like going snow-blind. My idea is to provide an outsider's perspective. Maybe a fresh set of eyes could help you with... what are you trying to do, exactly?"

Artemis blinks, surprised. "I hadn't realized I was alarming the rest of the crew that much. My apologies."

"I'm trying to recover the memories that I locked away," he explains. He frowns momentarily. "I remember almost nothing before age sixteen, and that deeply troubles me. At the time, it was probably best to lock them away-- I was working on the Galatea cure, and of course we had Sith to worry about. I needed to be sane. But now, I think it best if I confront what happened to me. I need to face my past and overcome it. But there's an..." he pauses for a moment before choosing a word, "...aspect...of me guarding those memories. I can't get past him."

"When you say that you cannot remember before age sixteen, has it always been like that or is that something that happened recently?"

"Recently," Artemis replies. Then he hesitates. "I'm ninety percent certain of that. When I lost my sight for a while, that was as a result of locking away my memories. All I can remember now before sixteen are the times I was in school, and when I was four--before my mother left. Even then, there are gaps; scenes that I'm sure are missing someone, but I can't remember who."

"So, you want these memories back, now? What exactly are you hoping to achieve with all of this?"

"Resolution," Artemis replies. "I'm not whole. And I feel as though I'm running from my past and taking the easy way out, like I've always done before. But the only way I can truly heal is to conquer my demons, not just lock them up." He pauses, taking a slow breath. "I feel as though I need to do this. Some part of me is still sick. If I don't uncover it and clean it up, it will fester in the back of my mind."

Freya blinks. "I think that was the sanest and most mature thing I've ever heard you say. Maybe there is some hope for you in all of this."

"So, what do we do and where do we do it?"

Artemis gives Freya a faint smile and murmurs, "Thank you." Then he takes his hands from his pockets and clasps them loosely together.

"I believe the best way to attempt this is to bring you along with me inside my mind, if you are willing of course. I can explain what I have found and attempted thus far beforehand." He pauses. "I have never tried taking someone along with me before. The process should be similar. If you like, I can teach you the fundamentals of the ability, and you can follow after me."

"As for where," he shrugs. "We will both be unconscious, so ideally in a place where you are comfortable."

"I'm expecting this will be like when we confronted Xel'lotath. Comfortable is a relative term, so let's find someplace you wouldn't mind being found dead in and get going."

Artemis nods. "The hangar should suffice, then. Someplace open."

On the way, Artemis will tell Freya the two most notable aspects of the Jedi guarding his memories. "He's far stronger in the Force than I am. I cannot brute force my way past him. I should be able to out-think him, but I haven't had any luck. If he suspects I'm onto something, he kills me. But I've learned that anything that I do to myself also manifests on both aspects. A cut on me becomes a cut on them. Unfortunately if I incapacitate myself, I wake up or am otherwise unable to open the door."

"Looking forward to meeting him," she says as she sits down cross-legged on the hangar floor. "Anything else we have to worry about?"

"I think you'll like him," Artemis comments, sitting down in a similarly cross-legged fashion opposite of and facing Freya.

"The Jedi will be very displeased to see me. I left last time with the impression that I would not be continuing my efforts to get past him. He'll also probably take great umbrage to your presence. Other than that, no warnings save for the obvious 'if this works, it is going to get very ugly'."

If Freya has no more questions, Artemis will slip into his own mind and allow Freya to follow.

(OOC: Ok, Tank, I'm in!)

The two of you find yourself standing in a hospital corridor. Arahn and Defel are scurrying about tending to the patients who seem to largely be comprised of STARS members with various injuries from the past.

Artemis cautiously scans the area in view, checking to make sure that Freya's presence hasn't elicited any unpleasant defense mechanisms in his mind.

"The door and the Jedi are at the morgue." He will begin to lead the way there.

As the two of you make your way to the morgue around a corner come a pair of security guards. One is a rather large and imposing Defel and the other is an Arahn carry a straight jacket and syringe as they seem intent on intercepting the two of you.

"The morgue. Of course," she mutters. Then, seeing the orderlies approaching, "Friends of yours?"

Artemis narrows his eyes at the two security personnel approaching. "It figures," he grumbles in response. "This doesn't usually happen. They're either after you, after me, or after us both. Let's hope it's the first one."

He focuses his will to try to keep the orderlies from approaching any further. If that doesn't work, he'll try to just keep distance between them and Freya and himself.

"Stand down," he orders, while thinking God I hope this works.... "Freya is under my escort. You don't need to pay attention to us." He'll enforce this with affect mind.

The lights dim and flicker in the hospital and some sort of mold like growth seems to spread along the walls in all directions.

The Defel growls out, "Doctor's orders I'm afraid."

The straight jacket leaps out from the Arahn's arms moving on it's own like a living thing. The straps and buckles acting like legs it scuttles like a spider at high speeds lunging for Freya and giving out a shrieking hiss from Sith knows where.

Freya backs up to give Vox a little more time to act. "Doctor, take control of your mind. I don't want to have to lash out at anything in here, but I will if I have to."

Artemis' attempt at Affect Mind doesn't seem to be doing anything likely due to the fact that this is his own mind and it'd be like lying to himself.

"Understood," Artemis replies. Control. That was the problem with his mind, wasn't it?

He ignites his lightsaber and extends it at the ready, poised in a battle stance and ready to intercept should he need to fight. He pushes out with his other hand and his mind, trying to TK the thing that's lunging for Freya and force it to freeze in place. He doesn't forget about the two orderlies either, though. He will not allow them to approach and will force them away if necessary.

"Which Doctor?" he demands, and he tries with all of his strength to enforce his control over the mindscape. "I'm the Doctor here. You will listen to me."
